Full moon viewing, Tsukimi

In the Orient, like in Japan, China and Taiwan, there is a custom of appreciating the moon.
In Japan, we have a celebration of the full moon during the autumn season, which we call Tsukimi. It literally means, moon viewing, done with displaying Japanese pampas grass (Susuki), and eating rice dumplings, called “Tsukimi dango”.
The full moon floating in the clear autumn sky is especially beautiful. It is said that in the past, people could see that rabbit on the moon, pounding rice for rice cake. They enjoyed drinking Sake (Japanese rice wine) and eating Tsukimi dango with such a fantastic imagination.
Of course, we do, too, in this period!
